DEW OF REBIRTH

Fringe Gothenburg. During the residency Urška Medved, Cha Blasco, Johanna Ståhl and Annika Vestel have been delving into an artistic exploration on the theme of crying, to create a site specific experience connected to the Slaughterhouse. The four artists have explored how crying can be abstracted into artistic expressions from the point of view of 4 different art fields.

Dew of Rebirth is a journey into the body, into an auditory, vocal, sensorial and intimate experience, to explore the tabu of crying. It is an open performance exhibition, where you can choose to stay as long or as short as you please. The Slaughterhouse was previously a place linked to a process where living bodies became meat. The act of crying also involves a bodily, fleshly process, where the physicality of the body changes. This process also opens up for a transformative potential which is the point of departure for the project.

In our work, the Slaughterhouse is transformed into a cleansing bath – a space where forms are changed; where each room has different functions, all of which are connected to crying from different artistic perspectives. To slaughter an emotion. To kill a past emotional event/that is caught in the body in physical form. Once blood was pouring, running droping, now tears come into blood’s place. The audience gets to go through a purifying, transformative process, while the slaughterhouse gets to do the same. And faces with a tabu – crying in a place of a past tabu - slaughtering.
