THE LAND OF BEES

-the paradoxicality of absence

and the execution of vacation-

I am an artist, I do not vacate and I vacate all the time. To create an artwork I need to come to a state of mind where I am at ease, relaxed and well-rested. I need to enjoy and have fun. These terms are very much in line with what vacation means. So to create, I need to come to a state of internal vacation. It is the state of vacation when artists actually work. So if the vacation is opposed to work, artistic vacation equals work. VACATION = WORK

“The land of bees” is a site specific performative installation existing in nature that connects body and fabrics with other objects and materials wrapping up two years research on the topics of absence, work, burnout, vacation, paradoxes and public engagement. It is the conclusion of Urška’s Medved master's studies at Contemporary Performative Arts program at University of Goteborg
